Totally Awesome: Tramp Art

I saw this image on my Pinterest homepage this morning, with the caption saying "Tramp Mirror" something or other (Don't quote me on it. My 6 am memory is faulty.)... My initial response? WTF. Tramp mirror? Is this specifically made for crazy ladies that can't keep it in their pants? A mirror for viewing lower back tattoos? No. I'm afraid it's not.

This little nugget is made with the influence of the 19th century art form of Tramp Art. The name of this comes from the use of wooden cigar boxes (there was a stupid law back in the day saying they couldn't be reused as cigar boxes again) layered on top of each other to create a 3d effect. It's been noted (I don't know by who, but it says it has) that the most common artist of this style was often a vagrant, hobo, or, you guessed it, tramp. Check out how gorgeous the actual vintage frames are.

Holy effing cow, right? Can you imagine making one of those things?! And how intricate and gorgeous they are! These would be one of those gorgeous pieces that I would never, ever give up.
