Chic Tip of the Week

Ok, can I just say that the Chic Tip(s) today.... OMG. Simply amazing. I've been waiting and savoring this over the weekend and I'm soooo excited to share it with you! Christine from Bijou and Boheme is sharing her tips and tricks and sooooo much more!! So, enjoy and be oh so inspired!!

Hi there Living on the Chicites...it's Christine here from Bijou and Boheme and I'm quite delighted to be sharing my chic tip(s).

It was actually kind of hard for me to think of what I wanted to tell you lovelies...narrowing down what I feel is the best advice when it comes to decorating is well...not easy.
But...I do have a few thoughts (5 actually) that I'd like to share and PS, all of them fall into the category of fabulous on a dime....cheap and cheerful if you will.

1. Gold spray paint is your friend...buy it, embrace it, make it your pal.
Everything...and by that I mean most things...look better in gold. Example A...my duck.

And sidebar on this tip...please love gold in general...don't be afraid...it's your friend and will make your whole house more beautiful...promise...here's proof...

Oh and just because I promised that gold looks good on pretty much EVERYTHING...

how's that for awesome?

2. Buy real art...skip the mass produced huge printed canvases you see...well everywhere...and buy beautiful originals.
This does not need to be expensive...make Etsy your friend.
Amazing art can be had for less than you'd pay for most any store bought piece of fugly. Example A...feast your eyes on my foyer and more specifically on the large gorgeous print of Cricket by Leigh Viner...total spent with framing...$350...not bad my friends, not bad....

And hello Etsy gorgeous...just look at the art pretty that could be yours right now...

3.  Make antique/flea markets your favourite haunt because I promise you, treasures of the greatest kind await.

4. Embrace the quirk.
Look for the unusual, the weird, the special...that fabulously offbeat little trinket that you think no one else will like...trust me, it will make your space so much more interesting..

And the great news about this sort of item is that it doesn't always have to cost a fortune...I, for example, ran away with the pink cockatoo shown above (in tip #3) for 80 measly bones...because let's face it, not that many people want pink cockatoos. If I had about $400 right now to spend on nothing but fabulous whimsy, I'd so be taking this dapper gent home...

5.   Books...read them and love them...take their jackets off (make sure you inspect first to ensure the book is pretty under it's paper wrapping) and stack them everywhere.

The easiest and most relatively affordable way to up the chic factor in your house is to layer books on any flat surface you can find...this is important...any space without pretty coffee table reads just sucks...period.

So there you have it...my top 5 chic'ish' tips on how to make your space more fabulous without causing a budgetary breakdown...so hope you enjoyed.

Totally in agreement on the gold paint. And if you buy the paint second hand - bonus points.

Great post, Christine! Her tips are spot on. Couldn't agree more about Etsy for art -- I have found so many unique and beautiful photographs and prints!

These are excellent tips that are all relatively easy to do. I am a sucker for shiny objects, especially gold ones and I hoard coffee table books. Good tip to check their hard covers first though. Happy to have found your blog and can't wait to read more Trissta!
