Good Morning, Ladies and Gentlemen! You may ask me why I'm so chipper, well, I'm just so freakin' excited to show you what I came up with for the Pinterest Challenge. Okay, I didn't come up with it specifically for the challenge, I had actually started on it before they announced the challenge, but since I had been inspired by these other tutorials for this project. If you follow me on Pinterest, you've already seen these pictures!
And remember yesterday's post? This was a major inspiration.
As was this one...
Have you guessed it yet!? Yes, I made a DIY Paper Chandelier. My spin on it? Well, you'll just have to keep on reading!
And remember yesterday's post? This was a major inspiration.
As was this one...
Have you guessed it yet!? Yes, I made a DIY Paper Chandelier. My spin on it? Well, you'll just have to keep on reading!
Start with a lampshade. Yes, a lampshade. Gut it and turn that puppy upside down!
Instant chandy shape! Taaadaaa!
Next, wrap some wire around that baby to get it to have two extra rings to hang stuff on...
Hot glue the wire in place...
And then it should look something like this. Errr.... Okay, you can't really see the wire in this picture, but look at the close-up and you'll get the idea.
Then! Hang the frame upside down from something. Anything you brainstorm will work. Me? I used a broom, a chair, my piano, and a stack of books. Can you paint the picture from that?? If not, here's a rather hilarious picture...
LMAO.
Anyways... The next thing you should do is cut a bunch of strips of paper. I have a big ol' roll of butcher paper that I've been trying to use up since I was... oh like 12... This put it to great use! I'd be careful with regular paper, if it's constantly heated up by the light bulbs, it could catch fire. You could do like Brenna and use wax paper for a different feel and just do strips instead of circles...
Then, take the strips and fold them in half. Make sure your strips are fairly long so they can fold over the frame and overlap each other. Hot glue the center line...
And fold it over the frame like so...
Here's an in-progress shot. In the lower left hand side of the picture is my roll of paper... will it ever run out?! I hope not! Then, once you're done, hang it. I simply went to my local thrift store and found a simple light mount (luckily with these awesome bars to hold chandeliers) and attached it with single loops from an old chain I had laying around. You can use ribbon, wire, chains, etc. to attach it to the lighting fixture. It's not that heavy, so nothing too over the top is needed. Annnnnndddddd.....
Dunn dunn dunnnnnnnn DAAAAAA!
There you have it. And the best part? Here's the cost of the project:
Lamp Shade: $1 at Deseret Industries Thrift Store
Paper: Free cause I already had it
Light Fixture: $5 at Deseret Industries Thrift Store
Hot Glue: Free cause it's a staple in my home
Entertainment While Gluing, Folding, and Cutting: Free Compliments of Nate Berkus
Total: $6
Yes, this amazing, glorious ray of sunshine cost me 6 buckaroos. And every time I walk into my office, I stare with delight. This is by far one of my most favorite things that I've ever created. Yes. I'm a genius, you're more than welcome to tell me so. And don't worry, there are more projects to come! 'Oh Trissta,' you may say, 'I just don't know if I can take any more after that. That was just spectacular and amazing! Could you possibly top that?' Yes, I'd say... They just keep getting better and better.

wow. so creative. nice job.
Very clever! :)
It turned out beautifully. So cool what you can do with some effort and creativity.
It's lovely! Keep an eye on it, though, as incandescent bulbs put out a lot of heat.
Clap, clap, clap! You did a marvelous job! :)
You did great!
I would've never thought of that. Looks great.
Adorable! I LOVE this! If I didn't live in Hawaii, I would make one! If I made one here it would mold and crumple instantly. Too much moisture in the air :(
