Creating Your Own Art

Do you have a pesky blank space above your couch? Or a piece of art that's just too small? Well, here's the thing... You can create your own to fit that space. My rule of thumb when creating art for a space is to use the 2/3rds rule... Whatever you're going to put the art above, it should be 2/3rds as long as the object. So, for my space, I'm going to be creating a piece for above my couch.

Now as much as I LOVE that piece, it's just wayyyyy too small. So, instead, I would choose something larger... using my accent color, which is a maroon/red color. So, using photoshop (OMG. It's by farrrrr my absolute favorite thing ever when I'm planning a room) I put one of my favorite quotes up instead.

And there you have it. It's still a work in progress, but it's getting there. If you create your own art on your computer, you can get it printed for around $20 for a large one like mine. Even better, you could get pictures blown up and follow this tutorial from Young House Love on how to adhere it to canvas. (Canvas is great, and you can usually get it on sale at Hobby Lobby for super cheap!)
